Cody A. Phillips
Mr. Phillips practices primarily in the areas of Oil and Gas, Property, and Business Law; advising clients from entity formation through a wide range of operational, transactional, and regulatory matters. He also counsels clients on business succession and estate planning and administration.
Cody is a native of the Wichita area who graduated magna cum laude from Wichita State University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. His legal career began in the Kansas Army National Guard where he honorably served as a Legal Non-Commissioned Officer. In 2015, Cody graduated magna cum laude from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia before joining Morris Laing in Wichita as an associate attorney. He departed Morris Laing in 2017 to accept an in-house position with a Kansas independent oil and gas company where he served as Vice President and General Counsel. Cody rejoined Morris Laing as a shareholder in 2024. Cody brings his broad legal and business experience to the table in evaluating and resolving all client matters. He understands and prioritizes his clients’ need for efficient and timely legal representation.
Cody, his wife, and their son live on a small farm outside of Augusta, KS where they enjoy the peace of the country living. Cody is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for camping, hunting, and fishing. He can often be found sharing the wonders of the natural world with his family and friends.
