Robert I. Guenthner retired as a partner from Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock & Kennedy, Chtd., where he worked for 57 years.  Guenthner’s law practice concentrated in the areas of business, banking, probate, trust and estate tax law.

While Guenthner was serving as President of the Kansas Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Section in 1971 and 1972, he was asked by the KBA President to form an ad hoc committee to propose rules governing the discipline of attorneys.  Guenthner, as chairman of the committee, became the principal draftsman of the rules eventually adopted by the Kansas Supreme Court that established the Office of Disciplinary Administrator and the Kansas Board of Discipline for Attorneys.

In 1979, Guenthner was appointed by the Kansas Supreme Court as one of the original members of the Kansas Board of Discipline of Attorneys.  He served continuously until 2013, with 34 years of service to the Board of Discipline.

Guenthner received many awards throughout his career, including the Kansas Bar Association’s Professionalism Award and the Kansas Supreme Court’s Justice Award for distinguished contributions to the improvement of justice in Kansas.

We know his retirement will allow for more time with his family and his hobbies of model railroading, collecting and restoring antique carousel animals and antique children’s pedal cars.
