Morris Laing was nominated to participate in the Wichita Business Journal’s Best Places to Work. Nominated companies agree to have staff members take an independent employee engagement survey, conducted by Quantum Workplace. Those scores are tabulated and the top companies in each category are named finalists.

What makes your company the best place to work?

At Morris Laing, it’s the people and the culture that set us apart. We have an environment where teamwork, respect, and trust are the norm — not the exception. We value life outside the office just as much as the work we do inside it, which means flexibility, support, and understanding. Our attorneys and staff know they are appreciated, and we genuinely enjoy working together.

How would you describe your company in 30 seconds?

Morris Laing has been serving clients for more than 80 years, earning a reputation for delivering high-quality legal work at fair and reasonable rates. We take pride in building lasting relationships — with our clients, our peers, and our community. Inside the firm, we value our employees’ lives outside the office, fostering a fun, laid-back work environment where respect and collaboration thrive. We work hard, we serve well, and we care about the people we work with and the community we serve.

How does your company help grow employee careers?

At Morris Laing, employees grow through real responsibility, early client contact, and strong mentorship. Collaboration across practice areas broadens skills, while continuing education and leadership opportunities build expertise. With support for personal interests and a focus on long-term careers, many attorneys and staff choose to spend their careers at Morris Laing.

How do you help employees reach a healthy work/life balance?

We work hard for our clients’ interests at Morris Laing, but we also know that healthy employees do their best work. That is why we respect personal and family time, offer flexibility, and encourage space to re-charge. We also recognize the importance of good mental health. We make time for fun outside the office — whether through firm outings, community events, or informal get-togethers — to stay connected and energized.

How do you promote diversity and inclusion within your company?

Every employee is valued, respected, and empowered at Morris Laing. We emphasize fairness, transparency, and opportunity by giving employees at all levels a voice. New associates often serve on firm committees, staff are included in decisions, and our openness builds trust. By empowering people with meaningful opportunities, we’ve created a workplace where employees thrive and clients benefit.

What is your best reward for a job well done or employee achievement?

At Morris Laing, achievement is rewarded with both financial benefits and genuine recognition. We celebrate successes publicly and privately, reinforcing the firm’s standards for excellence while showing employees their contributions matter.

What’s the most popular out-of-office activity your company hosts for employees?

The firm’s annual holiday party, held at different venues every year, is always well attended and much anticipated. If Santa makes an appearance, laughter is guaranteed. A close second is participation in Lawyer League Softball. The Morris Laing softball team draws the biggest crowds in the league. Think Savannah Bananas, not the Yankees.
