What do you do in your role? Predominantly business law. Encompassed within that is wide range of legal work, including mergers and acquisitions, entity formation and organization, contract drafting and review, banking, trademarks, oil and gas, real estate, civil litigation for both external and internal business disputes, and a variety of other areas.

How did you get involved in your profession? After 10 years in the restaurant industry, I took a risk and applied to law school. I ended up at KU Law, where I got an offer to work as a summer law clerk for Morris Laing and I’ve been here ever since. Morris Laing has been incredibly supportive and sets me up for success in the areas I want to practice.

Who is a mentor who got you started and why are they important to you? I am particularly lucky to have multiple high-quality attorneys help me get started in my career. Karl Swartz, A.J. Schwartz, Ryan Peck, James Young, Will Wohlford and Jon Schlatter have been instrumental mentors and their willingness to discuss any question I may have, even the dumb ones, has been so helpful as a young attorney.

Why will this be your profession long-term? It is an incredibly rewarding profession. I get to help young entrepreneurs get their business going, help resolve problems for business in their most troubling times, and help business owners grow and develop their dream.
