Mr. Houk focuses his practice at Morris Laing primarily in the areas of oil and gas law, business law, and civil litigation.
Before joining Morris Laing as an attorney in 2026, Mr. Houk clerked with the firm for two summers and throughout his final year of law school. He assists clients with business matters, advises on oil and gas matters, and represents clients in civil litigation. His practice includes drafting and reviewing contracts, business formation, and handling oil and gas lease matters, partition actions, and related disputes.
A native of Parsons, Kansas, Mr. Houk taught history in Pratt, Kansas, and earned a master’s degree in educational administration before pursuing a career in law. While teaching, he also worked for local farmers and served as a hunting guide. His experience in Kansas’ rural communities gives him a practical understanding of the challenges facing landowners, businesses, and families throughout the state.
Outside of his practice, Brett enjoys spending time with his wife, Megan, and their two children. His Christian faith is an important part of his life, and he and Megan are actively involved in their church. An avid outdoorsman, Brett enjoys bass fishing, bow hunting, and upland bird hunting, but has a particular fondness for chasing cutthroat trout, with a dry fly, in high mountain streams.
